Friends and Family of Anna Gordon Establish Endowed Scholarship

The friends and family of the late Anna Gordon have given more than $30,000 to the College to establish the Anna E. Gordon Memorial Endowed Scholarship, which will be used to support students studying psychology. A 2009 graduate of The University of Alabama, Gordon earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish with summa cum laude honors; she minored in the Blount Undergraduate Initiative. Professor’s Estate Establishes Anthropology Scholarship

Dr. Allen R. Maxwell, professor emeritus of anthropology, died Nov. 16, 2011, at his home at the age of 71. Part of Maxwell’s estate was bequeathed to The University of Alabama to establish the Allen R. Maxwell Endowed Anthropology Scholarship. The scholarship is designated for graduate students in the Department of Anthropology. Maxwell retired from UA in 2010 after 36 years with the Department of Anthropology. Estate Gift Endows Math Scholarship

A gift of more than $1 million from the estate of Edith Wetzel Ainsworth has established the Ainsworth Endowed Graduate Scholarship in Applied Mathematics in the College’s Department of Mathematics. Ainsworth and her husband, the late Oscar Richard Ainsworth, were faculty members in the math department. Oscar Ainsworth earned a bachelor’s degree in 1945 and a master’s in 1946 from the University of Mississippi.
