TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences proudly announces the establishment of The Dawn and Cody Brown White House Historical Association Endowed Support Fund for the Department of History.

This endowment aims to provide crucial support for the White House Historical Association fellow each summer, ensuring that aspiring scholars receive financial assistance for living expenses while completing their internships. The endowment has been established by Dawn Wiley, PhD student in the Department of History, along with her husband Cody Brown, UA alumnus.

“The College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Alabama has a close working relationship with the White House Historical Association. The Dawn and Cody Brown White House Historical Association Endowed Support Fund is an exciting enhancement to this partnership, and we look forward to many more years of student-centered collaboration,” stated College of Arts and Sciences Dean Joseph Messina.

Motivated by their personal experiences and a shared passion for historical preservation, the couple seeks to inspire future young scholars to engage in the important work of preserving America’s rich history.

Wiley shared her motivation for creating the endowment, stating, “My experience with the White House Historical Association’s partnership with The University of Alabama through the internship program exceeded my expectations. Through the Association’s support and guidance, I achieved my goal of contributing a published article for the initiative and completed research at the National Archives to support my own dissertation. I hope the creation of this endowment allows future UA scholars to have similar experiences, become more involved with the Association, and most importantly, continue being stewards of American history.”

The Dawn and Cody Brown White House Historical Association Endowed Support Fund stands as a powerful testament to the unwavering commitment of The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences in fostering educational opportunities and advancing its enduring partnership with the White House Historical Association throughout the years.

“As president of the White House Historical Association, and a graduate of the University of Alabama Department of History, I am doubly honored to enhance our collaboration with The University through this endowed support,” said Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association.
