The College of Arts and Sciences is proud to announce the Yonder Contemporary Dance Company’s captivating dance concert, “Unstuck With You,” at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. The production will take place August 5th-12th, internationally showcasing the company’s artistry and creativity, and will be available for viewing in-person throughout the run, with a livestream of the final performance.

“Unstuck With You” is a production that takes inspiration from the outer edges of the universe to provide valuable insights into ourselves. Enhanced by Michael Wall’s captivating music, with original text by Jessica Lee Richardson as the throughline, the show prompts the audience to consider their impact on one another and their unique place in the universe.

“This year’s concert has been our first collaboration with a writer, and it’s been very gratifying working with Jess on the imagery created through the text and the choreography,” said Sarah M. Barry, artistic director of Yonder and Associate Chair of Dance at UA. “We’re so excited to share this work with new audiences and for the opportunity to see other innovative works at the Fringe.”

Yonder presents biennial evening-length performances internationally, collaborating across disciplines such as Dance, Advertising, Public Relations and Music to cultivate cross-disciplinary partnerships and enhance appreciation for contemporary dance at the University.

“Unstuck With You” is the result of a year-long journey with a team consisting of eight College of Arts and Sciences dancers and two Advertising and Public Relations (APR) students. These two APR students have taken on the responsibility of managing the press and marketing for the dance concert, complementing the creative efforts of the dancers. The dance concert was first conceptualized in the fall of 2022, and since then, the team has tirelessly refined its choreography and storytelling, presenting the work regionally in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Huntsville and Memphis during the spring of 2023.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, renowned as the largest performing arts festival in the world, draws artists and performers from every corner of the globe to showcase their artistry and talents. It celebrates creativity, originality and innovation, making it the perfect platform for Yonder to share its vision and passion for dance.

Yonder Contemporary Dance Company will live stream their final performance on August 12th at 11:40 a.m. Central Standard Time.
