Healthcare Professionals to Speak at 2022 McCollough Forum

From the February 2022 Desktop News | Medical professionals from around the southeast will address students at the 20th annual Susan N. and Gaylon McCollough Medical Scholars Forum Feb. 11 at Smith Hall.  

The forum, designed to prepare students pursuing medical and health science professions, will begin with a lecture by Dr. B.L. Stalnaker, a doctor of gynecology with a private practice in Pensacola, Florida. He will lead a discussion titled “Reflection on the Future of Medicine.” Board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Stalnaker has held many positions in both the public and private sectors, including as a residency program director for the University of Florida College of Medicine, Pensacola Campus. He has also practiced medicine in his own private practice and was a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. 

Following his remarks, attendees will hear from Dr. William E. Admire, the vice president and chief medical officer of the Mobile and North Baldwin Infirmaries, who will discuss the “Healthcare Industry in Ameria.” Throughout his career, Admire has served in many roles, including serving with the Mobile Police Department as the police surgeon for 20 years, ProAssurance board member, Infirmary Health physician advisor and claims committee member, Spanish Fort High School team physician, Gulf Coast and SeaBreeze Nursing Home director, Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital ACOM medical director, and as the Alabama Hospital Association physician representative. In addition to his leadership roles at Infirmary Health, Admire continues to work with Infirmary Occupational Health and iHealthy, Infirmary Health’s external wellness program. 

The keynote addresses will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Drs. Gaylon McCollough, Stalnaker, Admire, and Petra Lynch. Lynch is a board-certified interventional cardiologist who currently works with the Cardiology Associates of West Alabama at North River Medical Center. After receiving her medical degree from Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg in Germany, she completed her residency and fellowship training at the State University of New York at Buffalo and served as a research assistant at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.  

The McCollough Medical Scholars Forum was established by UA alumni Susan N. McCollough and Dr. Gaylon McCollough to prepare students pursuing medical and health science professions for the road ahead, with a focus on the Hippocratic and humanistic purveyance of health care. Dr. Gaylon McCollough is president of the McCollough Plastic Surgery Clinic and founder of the McCollough Institute for Appearance and Health in Gulf Shores. Susan N. McCollough is an international artist in abstract and impressionistic art and an alumna of UA’s College of Arts and Sciences. 

Together, the McColloughs gifted the College of Arts and Sciences its largest endowment in two decades to create the Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars and the Susan N. McCollough Art Biennale.
