Friends and Family Honor Ed Williams with Theatre Scholarship

Gifts of more than $32,000 from the friends and family of Dr. Edmond Williams have established The Ed Williams Endowed Scholarship in Theatre. The fund will support scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in theatre. Williams, of Tuscaloosa, earned his bachelor’s degree in 1967 and master’s degree in 1968 from The University of Alabama and his doctorate from Florida State University. Williams joined the College’s faculty in 1971 and served as the founding chairman of the Department of Theatre and Dance. Williams retired this year after a distinguished 42-year career with the department. During his tenure, Williams was instrumental in establishing and annually directing the popular pre-professional SummerTide Theatre program, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this summer.
