In UA Research, Tiny Worm Mimics Key Genetic Risk for Alzheimer’s
UA researchers use tiny roundworms known as C. elegans, which share roughly half their genes with humans, to study human diseases. The worms recapitulate the clinical trend of Alzheimer’s risk seen in humans that harbor these heritable differences.

UA Wheelchair Tennis Champ Earns National Honor
The Professional Tennis Registry has named University of Alabama wheelchair tennis player Shelby Baron the PTR Wheelchair Professional of the Year. Baron, who will complete her master’s in speech pathology in May, is currently ranked No. 2 in singles in the United States.

Reid Named Interim Dean of School of Social Work

Apply to Be a Collaborative Arts Research Initiative Fellow
CARI—which is a new research incubator dedicated to interdisciplinary, arts-focused inquiry—is announcing applications for its inaugural faculty fellowships. Applications will be open Feb. 4 through March 6, and information sessions for the fellowships will be held in January and February.
