Birdfest 2023

As a member of the West Alabama Birding Trail, Moundville Archaeological Park is hosting a bird walk with one of the park’s volunteers, Dwight Lammon, at 9 am.
Paleontology Show and Tell
Grand Gallery, Smith Hall 427 6th Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL, United StatesDiscover the wonders of what paleontology is and what types of tools they use to uncover different type of fossils! Participants in Grades 1-3 will have a show and tell experience with real life fossils and equipment and dress up as a paleontologist. This program is free with museum admission. Fossil Excursion
Museum Fossil Excursion Day Trips travel to the Black Belt of Alabama in search of vertebrate and invertebrate fossils from the Cretaceous Age. Participants of all ages should be prepared to get wet and muddy as we wade through shallow streams to collect shark teeth and other marine fossils from streambed gravel deposits. Moundville Archaeological Park 634 Mound State Parkway, Moundville, AL, United StatesSaturday in the Park is a series of demonstrations and presentations related to Native Americans, archaeology, natural history, sustainable gardening and more! On Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 11 am until 2 pm, Guy Meador will be demonstrating flintknapping at Moundville Archaeological Park! This stone tool maker event at will host flint knappers from all over the country. Knapping is the shaping of flint, chert, obsidian, or other conchoidal fracturing stone through the process of lithic reduction to manufacture stone tools.
