Using Zoom for Virtual Meetings

Need help getting set up for our Zoom luncheon? Follow these instructions, and use the links at the end of these instructions if you need more information. If you’re still stuck, or if something seems to be wrong, let us know! We will have a Dean’s Office staff member available to assist you.

Note: For the best Zoom experience, we recommend starting this process at least half an hour before the meeting.

Setting Up Your Computer, Tablet, or Smartphone

If You Already Have the Zoom App:

  1. Close any program that uses the camera, such as Skype or FaceTime.
  2. Click the Zoom link in the meeting email. If you have already installed the Zoom app, it should open up automatically.
  3. After Zoom has launched, you should see a pop-up window asking for your name. This is the name that will appear during the meeting.
  4. Click the button that says “Join Audio by Computer.” Your setup is now complete!

If You Don’t Have the Zoom App:

  1. Close any program that uses the camera, such as Skype or FaceTime.
  2. Click the Zoom link in the meeting email. If you have not already installed Zoom, it should download automatically. You might need to click “OK” or “Yes” in one or more pop-up windows to allow this to happen.
  3. Look for the downloaded Zoom app in your Downloads folder. Click “Zoom_launcher.exe” to begin installation.
  4. After Zoom has launched, you should see a pop-up window asking for your name. This is the name that will appear during the meeting.
  5. Click the button that says “Join Audio by Computer.” Your setup is now complete!

What if You Can’t Join by Computer, Tablet, or Smartphone?

You can still participate in the meeting by calling in:

  1. Dial the phone number provided in the meeting email.
  2. At the prompt, enter the meeting ID number in the meeting email.
  3. You have now joined the meeting! You’ll be muted automatically by default. When you want to speak, press *6 to unmute.
