Screening of the Guatemalan film 500 Years: Life in Resistance as part of the Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies Program Spring 2020 Film Series.

In the third entry of Pamela Yates’s celebrated trilogy of documentaries on contemporary Guatemala, the trial of dictator Efraín Ríos Montt unfolds. Focusing on the perspective of Guatemala’s Mayan population, these events are portrayed as part of a larger story of resistance to oppression and hope for a more just society.
