Edward Ayers is Tucker-Boatwright Professor of the Humanities and president emeritus at the University of Richmond. He has been named National Professor of the Year, received the National Humanities Medal from President Obama at the White House, was a finalist for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and won the Bancroft Prize for distinguished writing in American history. Ed is one of the cohosts for BackStory, a popular podcast about American history which explores the roots of contemporary events, and host of The Future of America’s Past, a television series that visits sites of memory and meets the people who keep those memories alive. He is the executive director of New American History, an online project designed to help students and teachers to see the nation’s history in new ways.

The Hidden Humanities lecture series aims to bring nationally prominent scholars and writers to campus to discuss contemporary issues in the humanities and their centrality to the both the modern university and civic life at the present moment.
