“Fried Green Tomatoes,” an exclusive Alabama Live Read of the Screenplay by UA Theatre & Dance

By special permissions of Fannie Flagg and Universal Pictures, students from UA Theatre & Dance will present a staged reading of her original screenplay for the film version of her Alabama novel, “Fried Green Tomatoes.” The students will be directed by UA Theatre & Dance faculty member Kelley Schoger. Images from the hit 1991 film will be projected as the students read from the script at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center and UA Gallery, 620 Greensboro Avenue, in downtown Tuscaloosa. Flagg's script includes a graduation scene at The University of Alabama that was cut from the final film. The UA campus scene will remain in this exclusive one-time only reading. This entry in UA Theatre & Dance's Alabama Live Read Series is endorsed by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and officially affiliated with Tuscaloosa 200.  Admission is free and doors will.open at 1 p.m. for the 2 p.m. reading.  The UA Gallery will also be opened for visitors.
