Stackman Establishes Marine Science Scholarship in Honor of Professor

Harvey Stackman of Cottondale has contributed $20,000 to establish The Bishop-Stackman Marine Science Endowed Scholarship. Named in honor of Dr. Everett L. Bishop Jr., a long-time faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences, the fund will be used to support scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students studying marine science.  Stackman earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and education specialist degrees in biology from The University of Alabama.

Merkles Contribute Nearly $60,000 for Art Scholarships

Drs. Carol and Arthur Merkle of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. have contributed nearly $60,000 to establish The Carol B. Merkle Endowed Scholarship Fund, which will provide scholarships in the Department of Art and Art History. Nearly half of the Merkle’s gift was also matched in 2009 as part of a challenge grant by the Windgate Charitable Foundation that pledged to give an equal amount up to $500,000 for studio arts scholarships. Art Support Fund Established by Jack Drake

Russell J. “Jack” Drake of Birmingham has contributed $10,000 to establish The Russell J. Drake Endowed Support Fund, which will be used to support operating expenses in the Department of Art and Art History. Drake is a 1969 graduate of The University of Alabama School of Law. He serves on both the Paul Jones Advisory Board and the Leadership Board in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Former Montgomery Circuit Judge Sally Greenhaw Establishes Scholarship

Sally Greenhaw of Montgomery has pledged $20,000 to establish The Sally and Wayne Greenhaw Endowed Scholarship in the College of Arts and Sciences. The fund will support scholarships for incoming students from Montgomery or Crenshaw counties. Greenhaw is a former Montgomery County circuit judge and a 1964 graduate of The University of Alabama. Chambers Contributes $100,000 to Establish History Professorship

Dr. Richard Chambers of Montgomery has contributed $100,000 with the intent to establish The Richard Leon Chambers Endowed Professorship. Additional funds have been pledged from his estate. The professorship will be endowed when it reaches the minimum level of $500,000 and will be used to employ a scholar who specializes in Middle Eastern culture and Islamic religious studies, specifically in the “modern era” of the post-7th Century studies that would include the Ottoman Empire and Turkish civilization. Pam McCollough Honors Parents with Scholarship

Pamela J. McCollough, of Katy, Texas has contributed more than $35,000 to establish The Doris and Joe McCollough Endowed Scholarship, named in honor of her parents. The endowment will fund scholarships for full-time undergraduate students in the College. McCollough is a native of Enterprise, Ala.
