Arts and Sciences Faculty and Staff Recognized for Dedication, Innovation, and Commitment at Campus Assembly: Each year the University and UA National Alumni Association recognize faculty and staff across campus and Arts and Sciences is proud to boast six award recipients: Dr. Kyungyong Lee, Dr. Michael R. McKain, Professor Dominic Yeager, Tabitha Tuten, Dr. Margaret Peacock, and ICUE Connector.

John Wingard, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, has accepted a new position as the Executive Director of the Capstone Center for Student Success, effective November 21. John has been an asset to the College and we wish him great success as he embarks on this new career path. Roll Tide, John!

UA Sculptures benefit Nucor Steel Children’s Charity Classic: Under the supervision of Professor Craig Wedderspoon, graduate student, Molly Lay, and undergraduate student, Madison Grooters, created two pieces for the live benefit auction. Lay’s piece sold for $3,000 and Grooters” piece sold for a record $30,000. Wedderspoon and his students have participated in this event for nine years and their sculptures have raised $375,700 in total for the hospital.

Lectures and Events

Memorial for Dr. Hobson Bryan Jr.: Dr. Colgan Hobson Bryan Jr. of Tuscaloosa passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. Bryan was UA professor who taught environmental policy and social psychology in the Department of Geography. His memorial service will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church of Tuscaloosa.

UA Veteran’s Faculty and Staff Luncheon: In recognition of Veteran’s Day, The Division of Student Life invites all faculty/staff veterans or their annual UA Veteran’s Faculty and Staff Luncheon. The luncheon will be held on November 8, 2022, at 11:30 AM in the UA Student Center Heritage Room. RSVP to vma@ua.edu.
