Baumeister Estate and Departmental Gifts Establish Psychology Support Fund

The Professor Alfred A. Baumeister Endowed Support Fund has been established with a $5,000 gift from Dr. Alfred A. Baumeister’s estate, along with additional funds from the Baumeister family and other donors. The fund will be used for undergraduate research and activities in the Department of Psychology and preference will be given to disadvantaged students who demonstrate a financial need. Pam McCollough Honors Parents with Scholarship

Pamela J. McCollough, of Katy, Texas has contributed more than $35,000 to establish The Doris and Joe McCollough Endowed Scholarship, named in honor of her parents. The endowment will fund scholarships for full-time undergraduate students in the College. McCollough is a native of Enterprise, Ala. She earned bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and English from The University of Alabama in 1979 and a law degree from the University of Houston. Dr. Robin D. Rogers, holder of the Robert Ramsay Chair of Chemistry and a Distinguished Research Professor of Chemistry at UA, has contributed $50,000 to establish the Robin D. Rogers Endowed Scholarship in Chemistry. The scholarship will provide funds for Department of Chemistry graduate students who graduated from The University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Jerry Otwell Rutledge of West Hollywood, Calif. has contributed more than $18,500 to the Vernon and Eugenia Rutledge Endowed Painting Scholarship. The scholarship, established in 2009 to honor his parents, provides scholarships to students majoring in studio art with a concentration in painting in the Department of Art and Art History. A gift of more than $30,000 from the estate of Wallace E. Holznagel Jr. has established The Wallace E. Holznagel Jr. Scholarship in Biology to support student scholarships in the Department of Biological Sciences. Holznagel, originally from Chattanooga, Tenn., graduated from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Penn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Audubon Society. Charles L. Day, father, and Dr. Nancy R. Campbell, stepmother, of the late Zachary Daniel Day, have given $15,000 to establish a support fund to honor the memory of their son. The Zachary Daniel Day Memorial Support Fund will support lectures in the Department of Religious Studies that address topics related to image, myth, and theory in popular culture.
