From the November 2014 edition of Desktop News | The Alabama Conservation and Natural Resources Foundation has donated $50,000 to the College of Arts and Sciences to establish a scholarship in memory of UA alumnus Larry Drummond. Judith Ann Spinola, daughter of the late Angelo Richard Spinola, has donated $6,000 from the Spinola estate to the College to provide scholarship funds for a student pursuing a teaching career. The Semmes Foundation of San Antonio, Texas, has donated $100,000 to the Douglas Epps Jones–Geological Sciences Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship is intended to benefit students studying in the College’s Department of Geological Sciences. Kathleen A. Farmer and others have given more than $10,000 to the College to establish the Randall Justice Farmer Endowed Support Fund. In the 2010-2011 academic year, Nick’s Kids, a charitable fund for children established by UA head football coach Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, gave $8,000 to the Brewer Porch Children’s Center.
