UA’s professional summer theatre company SummerTide is returning for its 11th season with “All Shook Up,” a musical featuring the music of Elvis Presley.

From the June 2014 Desktop News In its 11th season, SummerTide Theatre will be shaking things up this summer in Gulf Shores, where The University of Alabama’s professional summer theatre company will present All Shook Up by Joe DiPietro. Performances will run June 6-July 4 Tuesdays through Sundays beginning at 8 p.m. at the George C. Meyer Performing Arts Center.

Inspired by and featuring well-loved tunes from Elvis Presley, the production centers around a mysterious stranger who rides into a small town in the Midwest and teaches the residents about life, love and the power of rock ‘n’ roll.

Stacey Alley, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance, is directing the production.

“This is not your typical jukebox musical,” Alley said. “The music is interwoven into the plot of the show and helps drive the storyline forward.”

The show features classics the audience will recognize such as “Jailhouse Rock,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” ”Let Yourself Go,” and “Blue Suede Shoes.”

Alley said the energetic musical is sure to appeal to all ages.

“I love Elvis music,” she said. “I think the show has great music, a wonderful message and well-written characters that you genuinely care about. It’s fun. It’s just fun.”

Tickets are available for purchase at summertide.org or by calling the George C. Meyer Performing Arts Center box office at 251/968-6721. Tickets prices are $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12 years old.
